PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The "A Better Me" program, funded by the City of East Palo Alto's TOT grant, is
designed to support the holistic development of youth ages 5-18 in the East Palo Alto community. Through structured basketball training, character-building workshops, and
life skills education, the program empowers young participants, fostering resilience, teamwork, and personal growth.

PROGRAM WORKSHOP 1

Workshop 1: Eye Love Me Some Me.

Focused on self-worth and self-compassion, emphasizing the importance of recognizing individual value and treating oneself with kindness. This session set the tone for a safe, inclusive environment.

PROGRAM WORKSHOP 2

Workshop 1: Who Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?

Participants are introduced to
goal setting and perseverance, providing tools for envisioning and working toward
future aspirations. Participants engaged in discussions and activities designed to
develop a strong sense of purpose and direction.

Use of Technology and Remote Facilitation:

All sessions are facilitated remotely using interactive digital platforms that foster
engagement and real-time participation. Pre- and post-workshop surveys have
been implemented to measure progress and gather feedback. This approach not
only maintains the program's accessibility but also allows for data collection on
participant progress.

PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT APPROACH

• Curriculum Customization and Individual Development Plans: Following participant registration, PSA engaged with families to discuss each participant's goals and create personalized development plans.

• Core Values and Program Expectations: Introducing foundational values of the
program to ensure alignment and mutual respect among participants.

• Interactive Stories and Group Discussions: Facilitators engage participants with storytelling and group discussions to make sessions relatable and to help build confidence.

• Personalized Activities: Activities are designed to foster self-identity, encouraging each participant to express themselves and begin their journey of self-development.
